Calah Schlabach 2015 Triathlon Season

My name is Calah Schlabach. I have just started my second year as a professional triathlete. I am excited to embark on my second year, incorporating some strategies to build considerably from where I started.

One thing I believe needs to change this season is that I need the freedom to race more. In the past I have maintained a relatively small race schedule, partly because I didn't see a need to race unless I was ready, and partly because I couldn't afford to race more. I have come to the point, however, where race experience is crucial to my development--especially as I target the ITU Draft-Legal (Olympic Format) race circuit. I am thankful to have a coaching job that pays for my basic needs; however my current income doesn't allow for the amount of racing that I will require over the coming season--especially as much of it will be international.

Please support me this season by buying and wearing a t-shirt. My t-shirt expresses my motto for the 2015 season, “grit.” According to Angela Lee Duckworth, “Grit is sticking with your future — day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years — and working really hard to make that future a reality.” For more on the concept of grit, see her talk at TED.com. The back of the shirt has the “Be Intrusive” logo--a motto created by my mom to encourage suicide prevention by means of real community and personal support.
