About this campaign
Fortress of the Bear is a rescue sanctuary for orphaned bear cubs in Alaska. This past November Fortress' mission was abruptly expanded when the Alaska Department of Fish and Game placed three orphaned black bear cubs at Fortress. Although expanding to accommodate black bears had always been part of the plan, Fortress of the Bear had previously been limited to the rescue and care of brown bears only.
The black bear cubs had nowhere else to go. If Fortress had refused them they would have been shot. However, accepting them came with a condition: that Fortress needed to create a suitable outdoor habitat for the cubs by April 15, 2014 or they would be subject to euthanization by Fish and Game. Challenge accepted.
