At the tender age of 3 months, Austin was diagnosed with a rare, congenital brain malformation, Semilobar Holosprosencephaly.As a result, he has severe developmental delays (unable to walk, sit on his own, crawl, talk), Central Diabetes Insipidus (unable to control urine production), Panhypopituitarism (multiple low hormones), Microcephaly (small head), gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, delayed gastric empting, and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). During infancy Austin underwent multiple surgeries to includeplacement ofa feeding tube and repair an encephalocele (hole in the skull). He requires 4 tube feeding and 12 doses of medication a day. He receives physical, occupational, and speech therapies bi-weekly and requires 24 hour one on one custodial care. Adaptive equipment (i.e. Upsee, Childrite seat, GoToSeat, Playpak) and aggressive therapies (i.e. Anat Baniel and Hippo therapy)would allow Austin to do even more.
