Texas family violence centers continue to provide life saving shelter to women and families experiencing violence at the hands of their intimate partners. In 2014, 23,311 victims of family violence sought shelter and safety from violence at a family violence program. The average shelter stay lasted just over 31 days and 61,119 Texas families sought services like advocacy and counseling rather than shelter. Shockingly, in 2013 alone, family violence centers had to turn away 31% of victims requesting shelter, due to lack of space.  In 2013, 119 Texas women were killed as a result of family violence.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline website (www.thehotline.org), 1 in 4 women (24.3%) will experience domestic violence in her lifetime (1 in 7 men).  In 2013, acrding to the US Census, the population of Atascosa County  was 47,093.  Of this populace, 50.3% were woman.  This means that approximately 5,756 woman in Atascosa County are or will be victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner.  Atascosa County does not have a facility to temporarily house victims of these crimes.  Weoften must transport victims to a location outside of the county, removing them from their support network and further disrupting the children's stability.

We have a vision for Atascosa County.  That vision includes a safe place to house victims of domestic violence.  We have found a building that, with a little work and a lot of love, will bring that vision to fruition.   We believe in the vision and mission of the Atascosa Family Crisis Center.  We believe in the dedication and drive of the Board of Directors and employees who spend their day doing everything in their power to help these families!  We are inviting you to join us in realizing this vision.

With the purchase of this t-shirt, know that you are making a difference in the lives of those affected by family violence, sexual assault, dating violence, human trafficing, and stalking.

Our sincerest thanks,
Atascosa Family Crisis Center Board of Directors
