About this campaign

The greatest distance covered on a hand-cranked cycle (aka a handcycle) in 24 hours is 649.85 km (403.80 miles) and was achieved by Thomas Lange(Germany) during the Bike Sebring 12/24 Hours, Sebring, Florida, USA from 14-15 February 2009.

Attila Domos of Pittsburgh, USA is looking to break that record. The 48-year old Domos is known for his upper body strength. He's a T11/12 paraplegic who broke his back in a falling accident in 1993, the very night he and his former band signed a recording contract.

Domos never stopped writing music, and even released his first solo album NEVER ENOUGH on August 6th of 2016, which is available in major on-line music stores like Spotify, iTunes/Apple Music, Amazon, etc. and he now has his eyes on breaking the 24-hour handcycling world record of 403.8 miles.

"Originally this was going to be a trial run, since I've never covered this kind of distance, before" said Domos, "but my speed and stamina has been excellent in 100 milers. In fact, I recently did a 100 mile trial run sprint on this tough track, and was able to do it in 5 hours and 17 minutes. That's just shy of 19 mph for over 5 hours. So, I kinda like my
chances of getting the world record right here, in the Steel City."

The Bud Harris Cycling Track in Pittsburgh is one of the tougher tracks in the world, because of the double hill on the inside, so naturally Domos has his share of nay-sayers. "People keep telling me that this track is too tough to handle for 24 hours, with its hill side, but that's what a trial run is for, to see what kind of punishment you can handle. And if I happen to break the world record in the process, all the better" he said with a smile on his face.

The original goal is for Domos to reach at least 350 miles in the 24 hours."If I can handle 350 miles on this tough track, I know I can go to Florida and do at least 400 on a flat surface. Since this is a half mile track,I'll have to go up the hill side around 800 times" said Domos with a laugh"that's a ludicro number."

Ludicrous… indeed!

Domos will ride to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, and locally for the Steel wheelers. He's asking people to donate .10 cents for every mile he completes.

"That's what I used to get when I was a pizzdelivery guy, way back in the day, and I figure that even if I break the world record, that'll be about a$40 donation, which is reasonable. Besides, with Booster, you can get a very cool t-shirt for your generosity."
