Young Women's College Preparatory Academy

In 2011, the Houston Independent School District opened the Young Women's College Preparatory Academy in partnership with the Foundation for the Education of Young Women, now the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. YWCPA and its six sister network schools are recognized as offering the most distinctive middle school and high school leadership programs in the nation. Located at 1906 Cleburne, in Third Ward, near the Texas Medical Center, the Museum District, the University of Houston, Texas Southern University, and Rice University, YWCPA students are engaged in rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum which include Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP), Advanced Placement (AP) levels, and Dual Credit college courses. Our curriculum prepares our high school students for postsecondary academic success while allowing them to earn college credit before graduation. In addition to its standard academic curriculum, YWCPA also offers students STEM-focused opportunities through a partnership with Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) in order to present multidisciplinary advanced academic learning experience in science, mathematics and the emerging technology concepts they need to pursue degrees in engineering, geology, geophysics and global energy management. YWCPA’s all-female population is comprised of students from all over the greater Houston and surrounding areas. Withouta specific zoned area, students are bused in from all over the area. Our population is comprised of 79% free and reduced lunch, where many of our students will be first-generation college students. Yet, YWCPA is one of the top five schools in HISD.
