The Purple Promise Supporting Lupus Sufferers and Caregivers

The Purple Promise Lupus Butterfly Award Ceremony was created for individuals battling Lupus. It was designed to encourage and bring awareness to the family members of men and women suffering with the illness. This vision was birthed in a woman named Karen Jenkins, that for the past 18 years has been greatly affected by Lupus to the point of almost death. Once she began to understand the lack of power in numbers....Meaning her direct family and friends that were not involved enough or educated on how lupus could change the course of one's life at any given moment.....

She made it her mission to provide them with the knowledge that they needed, in order to become an effective caregiver, motivator and encourager to those that are gravely affected by the disease. In 2013 as Karen was approaching turning 40, she decided that she would host an annual banquet every December,celebrating others in honor of her birthday month. Her desire is to always encourage other Lupus patients to STAY IN THE FIGHT! Our 2015 recipient is a strong man of valor name Thomas Griffin.

He lives in Los Angeles California and has really endured some tumultuous times over the past few years, due to lupus disease. His lovely wife and caregiver Orianna has been by his side every step of the way. Thomas has shown great strength and courage in times that seemed hopeless, but he overcame all adversities, such as when his kidneys began to fail and his heart went into Arterial Fibrillation. It was that type of courage that earned him the title of BUTTERFLY AWARD RECIPIENT OF THE YEAR. We are looking forward to honoring and celebrating him.
