About this campaign

In December 2014, Carol was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Surgery the following January revealed stage 4 Gliobastoma, which is a very fast-growing type of brain cancer. The doctors at M.D. Anderson were able to remove 90% of the tumor, and Carol is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy to slow the growth of the cancer. She has vision and hearing difficulties from the surgery. Concentration and reading ability have also been affected, yet Carol remains positive that she will beat this brutal disease. Her optimism and sense of humor remain, even through the treatments. With the purchase of this original shirt for $20, you will be a part of helping to continue the treatments she needs. All profits go directly to Carol.

Carol began her teaching career over 30 years ago at Oak Ridge Elem. She served as a district literacy coach for Conroe I.S.D. for many years, giving numerous district staff developments and assisting hundreds of teachers with implementing CISD READS. Carol has worked recently as a campus literacy coach, being an integral part of the Grangerland leadership team. Along the way, Carol and her husband Charlie raised their two grandchildren, Drake and Ruby. Drake is in his freshman year of college, and Ruby will begin her junior year next year at Conroe High. With the sudden death of Carol's sister, Carol and Charlie also welcomed their niece, Christine, into their home. Christine went on to graduate from Conroe High, The Univ. of Texas, and will begin law school in the fall. Needless to say, Carol and Charlie have touched many lives. This past winter, following a bout of terrible headaches, Carol was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In January, Carol underwent surgery to remove the tumor. The doctors were able to remove 90% of the malignant tumor, but tests revealed a stage 4 Glioblastoma, a very aggressive type of brain cancer. Currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, Carol remains optimistic that she can beat this brutal disease. These treatments will continue for the next 6 months, followed by another possible surgery as the cancer will continue to grow. Having spent his career in the oil fields, Charlie recently fell victim to the struggling oil economy and lost his job. While this turn of events has given him time to be with Carol for her surgery and treatments, medical bills and living expenses continue to increase. Carol is being forced to retire because of her medical condition. By purchasing this beautiful shirt (original design by Pamela Petty-Running Bear Designs available on Etsy), you can be a part of Team Carol and help this family who has helped so many. Your support, both financial and emotional, cannot be underestimated. Help us to give Carol a fighting chance for a few more years. Please spread the word about Team Carol and order your shirt today.
