My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 6 long years now. In 2009, I was diagnosed as "infertile" because I was unable to successfully get pregnant within the standard one year time frame. In 2009, we were referred to a fertility specialist two hours away from our home. We spent about three years with these doctors and completed 5 failed IUIs. During this time frame, I was also diagnosed with PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). After so many failed cycles and one of the doctors at the clinic retiring, we decided it was time to try a new doctor in a bigger city.

In 2011, we moved to our new and current clinic. This clinic is about a four hour drive away. In 2011, I had an exploratory surgery and was diagnosed with Stage 2 Endometriosis. We completed another IUI with this doctor after having the surgery to remove most of the endometriosis. It also failed. In May of 2014, we attempted our first IVF (in-vitro fertilization). Sadly, this also failed. We will soon be pursuing our second attempt at IVF with some of our frozen embryos that were left over. If this cycle also fails, we will then have the surgery again to remove the endometriosis that has returned.

Insurance covers none of the procedures, office visits, or medication even though infertility is a disease. In the six years that we have been trying to conceive, we have already spent $40,000. The medication for my next cycle alone will cost over $1,000. We are trying to raise money to help support the cost of our medication and office visits for this cycle, but also to help raise awareness about infertility. 1 in 8 couples are diagnosed with infertility. We are 1 in 8.
