About this campaign
At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in
Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are
winners every day. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic
Michael Blowen, Old Friends now cares for more than 100 horses across
three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers
came to an end. A “living history museum of horse racing”, the farm
attracts nearly 20,000 tourists annually that get up close and personal
with such stars of the turf as Breeders’ Cup Champion Gulch, Hollywood
Gold Cup victor and multiple stakes winner, Rail Trip, Whitney Handicap
Winner Commentator, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and…the losingest
horse in the history of racing, Zippy Chippy.
Supporters
Because I LOVE these horses, their courage and beauty....they give us all they have and they should be taken care of....so happy to see the great artist Mel leading the way.
Because off the track racehorses deserve a great place to live out their lives.
These majestic creatures that give all their heart competing in one of the most dangerous sports there is only to make so many millionaires deserve to be treated like kings & queens when they retire. Without the horses this sport WOULD NOT exist!!
I love that Old friends is providing a retirement with dignity for these horses who gave their all on the track regardless of their fame and success, or lack of success such as Zippy Chippy who deserves his happy life after racing.
I love my pony friends even when they swat at me with their tail.
