Welcome!!! Operation Dog Tag is a a volunteer based non-profit organization that provides rescues with a Foster and Logistics Team that they can count on, because we KNOW fosters save lives! Mission To engage and unite animal lovers committed to ending the plight of mistreated shelter animals in the United States, and to come together as a collective solutions/massive action team that helps end Shelter Euthanizations. Description This North Carolina-based organization works out of Ft Bragg/Fayetteville, NC area, and the membership is overwhelmingly military families. They know sacrifice and their families provide a warm loving environment for dogs and cats in need. This foster and logistics Team serves approximately a 150 mile radius in and around Fayetteville. General Information Operation Dog Tag is a non-profit organization that runs solely on donations and the work of volunteers.

WHAT WE DO
This Fosters group is part of a larger vision to develop a shelter infrastructure that would support better organization of resources for Adopters and Rescues.
...
With 17 million people looking for dogs at any given time, and 4 million dogs being euthanized each year, one needs to ask the question, why???

Part of the problem is distribution – this is the area we are addressing at this time, with this group – many of the dogs in over-crowded shelters are there because the human population can’t support the number of dogs that are being listed for adoption…

In order to distribute the dogs more evenly across the country…we need to make sure that rescues and transporters and those that help find adopters for these shelter animals, can do so with relative ease and as cost efficiently as possible.

State law requires that no dog can be transported across state lines before a mandatory 10-14 days have been completed “out-of-shelter”. This can be very costly for the adopters and the rescues….

By providing services like short term foster care, and a local transportation network, we can save the rescues lots of money, and by doing so thousands if not millions of pet lives each year.

We hope that this infrastructure model will be used as a template for many other shelters across the country

OUR HISTORY
In September of 2011 the group was officially started as a support system for Robeson County Animal Shelter which was in need of short term fosters. The cooperation and ideas of Annette Walbon, Stephanie Ensor, and Laura Donaldson were what started it all. Their love for animals and unselfish desire to help fueled their actions and as a result, Fosters for Furbutts was born. In 2012 the name was changed to “Operation Dog Tag”.

In just the first two months of the group being established, we had taken in a total of approximately 30 foster animals who were safely transported away from their impending doom! Now we have fostered over 1,000 dogs/puppies!!! The group has grown so much more than expected, a team of committees has been named and we are quickly becoming the blueprint for more organizations like us around the world!

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Networking is so important in the work that we do. Just talking about the process, the group, and the animals helps to spread the word and bring the issues to people’s immediate attention.
