About this campaign

Our team has taken on the challenge of walking 60 miles in 3 days.  Why? To support women like me who thought it wouldn't happen to them.  My name is Jacqueline and I am a fighter/survivor of breast cancer.  I was one of the lucky ones to be given life back due to early detection.  Please help me to help other women and men fighting this disease.  Help us help the Susan G. Komen foundation find a cure for breast cancer!

You see the commercials. Breast cancer? Doesn't run in your family? Not worth thinking about, right? Think again.  I had that very same attitude until February 18th, 2014 when I heard those words, "I'm sorry to tell you but you have breast cancer."

A freak accident had caused a cyst to develop in my right breast. Being responsible, or so I thought, I went and had it checked out. My doctor, confident it was a cyst, sent me for a mammogram just in case.  After all, I was at least 6 months overdue for my screening.  The cyst was just that, a cyst, or as I see it, a blessing.  It was what they found in my left breast that would change my life forever. I was rushed for biopsies and consultations ad before I knew it, I was a cancer patient. How could this be? I work in the medical field, so does my husband.  I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (hence the team name), I should have known better than to ignore my responsibility of a regular screening. I should have felt it. I didn't.

My first reaction was that it was a mistake, it doesn't run in my family.  Then I learned, only 30% of breast cancers are genetic.  I am the first in my family to battle this disease.  Thanks to the love and support of my family and friends, I am fighting and I will win!  I know how lucky I am to have been diagnosed early.

I needed to find a goal to work towards, something that I can see the end of, a finish line. I chose the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk.  I want to give back, to assist those working to find a cure. If I can fight this battle, I can walk 60 miles.  The road to recovery seems much longer to me.

Please, buy a shirt, support me, support my team. If you don't want a shirt, please, a simple donation would mean the world to me and others like me.  Help us help cure breast cancer.
