There are community centers and programs that are waiting for the art supplies and lessons we would like to provide to the children. With several major galleries closing in the Baltimore/Washington
area there are fewer options for the art community to show and express their
works.
I’m asking for your help to contribute to Mark Cottman Gallery's outreach
into the community through our t-shirt fundraising efforts.
CAN'T WE ALL JUST SWIM ALONG
‘The inspiration for ‘Can't We All Just Swim Along’
came to me in a dream. Like most of my dreams, this one was filled
with wonderful thoughts, images, and emotions. I was overwhelmed and
delighted by all of the many colorful faces during my sleep. I remembered how
the fish swam closely together, but in a state of tranquility and harmony
within a vast space of beautiful, clear water.
As the days passed, the vision of the fish remained with
me. I knew that this dream had a purpose. It gave me insight and hope; it
inspired me to create a painting that would represent the feelings I had
experienced throughout the dream. For me, the painting has become a
symbol for world peace.
I dream that peace will one day fill the land like fish
fill the seas.’

In 2010 I took the plunge and opened the Mark Cottman Gallery. My philosophy on art has always been that of vibrant color with a
positive and thought provoking message.
We’ve had many visitors to the galley and I still enjoy
seeing the child in them light up as they go from one colorful painting to the
next.
Our goal this year is to expand and provide art supplies and
lessons to inner city youth, bring other artists into the gallery, and support
the literary community with poetry readings and book signings. Mark Cottman Gallery has hosted fundraisers for the Baltimore
Zoo, AIRS, Habitat for Humanity, and many others. We have also donated art
to over 50 nonprofit organizations.
If my painting ‘Can’t We All Just Swim Along’ brought a smile to your face, imagine how many smiles you will receive as you show it to everyone on a
t-shirt. You will also help create smiles and hope with your donation. I
consider that a win – win. Don’t you? :-)
