Kent Island Beach Cleanups was founded by Kristin and Jon Weed in 2012 when they moved from the Western Shore to Kent Island. Immediately, they realized how much pollution existed here on Kent Island, and wanted to do something about it. The beaches were being neglected, the park signs were dated, and there had been really no enforcement of any of the park laws. Through countless cleanups, social networking and participating in community events, they initiated a large following of volunteers to come together 2 times a month, March thru October, to clean 2 main areas on the Island. Since 2012, they have built a website, expanded their volunteer base, dealt with a few hurdles and finally became a fully functioning 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization! Many doors have opened up for them to make a difference and that is thanks to their dedicated volunteers and followers! They could not do any of this without all of you!
