Kent Island Beach Cleanups T-shirt Fundraiser

My name is Kristin Cook, and I am the Founder of Kent Island Beach Cleanups. I moved to Kent Island in February 2012, and have since fallen in love with the surrounding beaches and parks. Unfortunately I have realized how much pollution we have here on KI, and that is this is a growing issue. The beaches and parksare being severely neglected, the signs are dated, debris is everywhereand there is really no enforcement of any of the park rules. In the Fall of 2012I conducted my first cleanup for the International Coastal Cleanup through the Ocean Conservancy, and what a success it was! My volunteers and I cleaned up over 20+ bags of trash in less than 3 hours, and that was only with 6 volunteers. Since then, I have built Kent Island Beach Cleanups. We have conducted over 10 cleanups, built a following of over 700 people on Facebook, collected over 10,000 items and 2,000 lbs of trash, involved the community and even had a local high school donate 3 fishing recycling bins for us to place at our two major cleanup sites. Recently, we have applied for nonprofit 501 (c) (3) status and areawaitingthe approval. We want to be able to do so muchmore than just clean the beach. We want to build more awareness in the community, gain more volunteers, and get our youth involved so they will have a healthier, cleaner beach to enjoy when they grow older. Please help us today!
