Description 

 The Kearny Community Garden is a new project created by a small group of Kearny citizens dedicated to making Kearny a great place to live. We started this garden last season to beautify, educate and nourish the Kearny community. The garden is a demonstration of how ordinary citizens can work together to build something beautiful. We had a successful first season, and seek to do it again this year!

We grow organic vegetables and flowers in bales of straw. That's right, we actually plant the food IN the straw bales! Straw bales attract less critters, are disease and pollution-free and require little weeding or tilling of soil. In addition, straw bales are the perfect height for kids and our wheel-chair bound members. Come visit the garden to see how well they work!

We want our garden to be a bridge for all the different groups in our community. Our current members are all ages and races. Our youngest is 3 and our oldest is 93. When you come, you may hear English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or Hindi. Regardless of the language we speak, we can all get together around food. Everyone and anyone is welcome.
