About this campaign

We are a loving couple from Jonesboro, Georgia. From April 8-12, 2013 we travelled up the east coast with our 7 children to get married in NY, CT, ME, NH, VT, MA, MD and DC. We are continuing our journey to the remaining marriage equality states!

First, let us introduce ourselves. We are Kacey Frierson and Chwanda Nixon. We are a lesbian couple out of Jonesboro, Georgia. We did have a civil union on April 7, 2012, but of course, a civil union is not the same as a marriage. We have decided to embark on a cross country, cross continent journey of love, commitment, and equality. We live in a state where we cannot legally get married. So we have decided to take this show on the road!!

Marriage equality is important to me and my wife Chwanda because we want to be able to be recognized as a legal married couple both on a state level and federal level; which we now have federal recognition. Before DOMA was struck down, from April 8, 2013- April 12, 2013 we travelled up and down the east coast with our 7 children, ages 11-17, to get married in 8 of the then 13 marriage equality states to get married; New York, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington DC. The reason we did this besides the fact that we love each other immensely and want to spend our lives together is to show our support of marriage equality and the fight we have to go through just to show and prove our love. Because even after all this, none of the 8 marriages we have had are even recognized in our home state of Georgia. We are still considered legal strangers. Our fight is not over! So we will continue to wed in the remaining marriage equality states until we do all 50!

The 2014 leg of the #idomarathon will be as follows: Monday April 21, 2014 Dubuque, Iowa Monday April 21, 2014 Harmony, Minnesota Tuesday April 22, 2014 Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ontario Wednesday April 23, 2014 Providence, Rhode Island Thursday April 24, 2014 Newark, New Jersey Friday April 25, 2014 Dover, Delaware

Remember that everyone is welcome and we would love to see you!!
