We need to bring New Jersey history to the forefront and this app will be one way to reach a larger audience!

Who is The History Girl?

Hi! My name is Kelly, and I am The History Girl. I’m a recent college graduate with a degree in American Studies and I am a lover of history and learning. For the last three years I have run “TheHistoryGirl.com,” dedicated to teaching others about the history of New Jersey and other states through social media and personal visits to museums and historic sites. I have found that many people do not know about all of the wonderful historic sites New Jersey has to offer.

What is the History Trails app?

My goal is to develop an app for smartphones and tablets that provides various "History Trails" people can go on. Depending on the person's interest (Revolutionary War, Industrial Sites, Agriculture, etc), they can choose a different trail. Each trail will contain information about the site, photos, a link to more information, and the site's address. 

Why do we want this app?

I think it is very important to keep history "modern" with the use of new technology. New Jersey has such a rich history that is kept in the shadows. This app will allow people on the go to find historic sites based on their interests.

How are my donations used?

Apps cost money to make - from the person coding the app for use on smartphones and tablets to the cost of hosting it on a database. Any updates we make to the app will cost extra, and of course we want to keep our app updated to better serve everyone!

I think The History Girl (and Mr. History Girl) are doing great work to increase knowledge of, and pride in, New Jersey history, and history in general. New Jerseyans really need to become more aware of the state's part in the history of the U.S.!

History is the guide to our future and if we lose what we have we all will be lost. The Ivanhoe Wheelhouse Museum is a great example part of it has survived from 1774 built by Peter Colt. Thanks History Girl.

This is a completely worthwhile campaign and should have been done by the State years ago to promote NJ Heritage.
