I am writing this on behave of my 4 ½ year old son who was born with Microtia Atresia Grade III (Microtia is a congenital deformity where the (external ear) is underdeveloped. Microtia occurs in 1 out of about 8,000–10,000 births and affects hearing. My son also was born with mild Hemifacial Microsomia (which affects the development of the lower half of the face, most commonly the ears, the mouth and the mandible .
My son has one wish to have an ear just like everyone else. “DJ” as we call him is longing to hear better, to be able to advance in his speech, communicate with his loved ones and society and to live a life that is just a little easier. However, life has not been easy thus far. Unfortunately, many insurance companies do not cover these procedures, ours certainly does not. DJ had gone without a Bone Anchored hearing aid for 2 years as I was denied over and over again by our insurance company. With our surgeon’s located in Virginia and Texas we cannot afford to grant our child’s wish. Surgeon’s costs, hospital fees, travel expenses, and hotel accommodations it’s unachievable without your help. Help DJ, Rock a Shirt! <3
