Many schools hold a "Powder Puff Football" game for the girls. Now, you can hold a "Juggernaut Field Hockey" game for the boys and raise money to fight prostate cancer.
Help us get Juggernaut Field Hockey off the ground -- run a game at your school or buy a shirt. Better yet, DO BOTH!
Juggernaut Field Hockey features special "boys only" rules so the boys can learn the game quickly and have as much fun as possible. For example, there are no penalty corners (instead they play what's called a STONKER) and we don't worry if the ball hits their feet by accident.
If you think this is a good idea, vote YES by buying a shirt!
Juggernaut Field Hockey is an exciting version of field
hockey that’s been designed just for boys so that your school can hold a
fundraiser to help fight prostate cancer.
Did you know one new case of prostate cancer occurs every
2.3 minutes and a man dies from prostate cancer every 17.8 minutes?
To make Juggernaut Field Hockey fast and easy to learn, the
normal rules of field hockey have been simplified. Players can score from
anywhere but earn more points for scoring from within the circle. Penalty Corners
are replaced with a Stonker – yup, a Stonker! Fully kitted goalkeepers are not
required. For safety reasons, the stick and ball is not allowed to be raised during
a pass or shot above the knees except in one-on-one situations with a fully
kitted goalkeeper or an open-net (in those circumstances shots may be raised to
any height). Obstruction is allowed as long as there is no stick or body contact.
Goggles are not allowed.
USA Field Hockey and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) would
like one or more schools to apply to “test run” the Juggernaut Field Hockey
fundraiser idea. Are you interested (click here to apply)?
WHAT
YOU’LL GET: Plans for two 90-minute Juggernaut practice sessions. A
full set of the rules. A website to make player registration and Juggernaut
t-shirt ordering fast and easy for players, coaches, and fans easy (proceeds
from the t-shirt sales are one way you make donations to PCF).
WHAT
YOU NEED: Members of your school’s field hockey team should serve
as coaches and umpires. Don't have a field hockey team? No problem. We have instructional videos to help you get the boys ready. To keep costs at a minimum, it is recommended that the
boys borrow equipment for the practices and the game. Alternately, please
purchase equipment made by CranBarry, Dita, Harrow, or STX, all USA Field
Hockey sponsors.
If you would like to apply to run a Juggernaut Field Hockey
game at your school, please click here to apply or contact Shavaun Rigler, Director, Annual Giving
& Advancement Services Operations (srigler@pcf.org).
