"Whether you are up to speed or totally in the dark with whats been happening in my life, here's an update.
Firstly, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure on January 3 and spent the next 8 days at Maine Maine in the ICU. I went home with a series of strong medications that first seemed to allow my cardiac health to improve slightly but I was just too weak and crashed. This same scenario has been happening over the last couple months and I've made very little, if any, forward progress to regaining heart function. Ultimately my heart is too weak on it's own.
Through all the doom and gloom and endless visits to the heart failure clinic, one thing was certain and that was I would need a heart transplant. The first step towards getting a recommendation to even apply to be on the waiting list is having a VAD (ventricle assist device) implanted in the existing heart, a pretty serious open heart procedure but one they've had great success with. The device does as you can imagine and helps promote blood flow through the heart. It creates positive blood pressure where I have none in my left ventricle. The VAD is considered the bridge from heart failure to a transplant. Its likely Ill live with the pump for several years if it goes smoothly and wait for my name to be called on the list. That is all best case scenario.
My cardiac team told me in January I could be looking at the end of summer for the VAD surgery to implant the device on my left ventricle. However my condition has been a worst case scenario playing out over and over again. I was admitted back to Maine Med on Monday March 4th after some blood work showed my liver was malfunctioning and the found a lot of blood clots in my right ventricle. It's been a long week of echo-cardiograms, blood work, clot busting, SWANS, and a couple small procedures to implant permanent IV lines into my neck. After all of that the surgeons came in this morning March 12 to let me know we will be moving the VAD surgery to tomorrow morning, March 13.
Given my condition it's best to act fast and operate ASAP.

A lot of people have been asking what they can do to help and after much debate a family friend and I have setup a Facebook page to act as a central page for updates and a GoFundMe account. No one wants to ask for anything and if you've ever met my parents you would know they've worked above and beyond to provide me with a great quality of life. In January my mother had to close the doors of her business to become my full time caretaker and my father has done much of the same. It all goes to help them as this is a burden unlike any. Everyone has heard how financially draining being in the hospital is so Ill spare you anymore but we have set a goal to offset some of the costs.
Again, anything helps and it brings tears to my eyes to write this.

I owe infinite thanks and love to the friends and family who have come to see me in the hospital and at home. To everyone who sent positive vibes and gifts, thank you. It's important to take care of yourself and those you surround yourself with, don't forget to tell them you love them. When you're in my position it does not go unnoticed. So please, tonight, tomorrow, next week raise a toast to what we have in our hearts.

Thank You" -Cody
