Caleb Kicks Cancer Childhood Cancer Awareness

Memorial Day weekend of 2015 we noticed swelling on the left side of Caleb's neck while on a family vacation. After several doctors visits and an eventual biopsy, on June 16th we received a call that no parent wants to hear. Caleb's biopsy results had come back and we were told that he had cancer He was 3 years old at the time of diagnosis. The very next day we met with doctors at the UVA Children's Hospital which turned into a 6 week stay a the hospital in which one of those weeks was in th PICU. During Caleb's treatment inpatient, we received final word of his actual diagnosis being Histiocytic Sarcma. This is very rare form of cancer and Caleb is the 8th documente case. Fllowing those 6 weeks inpatient, Caleb's treatment became outpatient therapy. He continus to undergo treatment at UVA Children's Hspital. Caleb's mom is a 5th grade teacher and had to take a year of unpaid leave to stay home with Caleb while he receives treatment.


Caleb is a very bright and funny 4 year old. He has an older brother named Colin who is 6. He loves his family, especially his yellow lab named Riley.
