About this campaign

Amelia looks like every other little girl on the outside but in reality she struggles with an invisible disability every day. She has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and is borderline mentally handicapped.

An Autism Service Dog would greatly improve Amelia's day to day living in countless ways. Please consider helping bring a service animal home to Amelia. Let's help make life a little better for this sweet girl.

Amelia’s father (my husband Richard passed away in my arms while we were sleeping) when Amelia was only 16 days old. Unfortunately she never really knew her daddy. And like so many others we are in this alone. It has been very difficult for us both. And now we are asking for your help to make life better for my daughter. Amelia is constantly bombarded with a plethora of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures. Where you and I can filter these out, she cannot. Amelia can only speak a few words. She does not understand social cues, facial expressions, emotions, etcetera. Amelia doesn't understand danger. She wanders without a care in the world. It doesn't matter what I tell her. Not only can service dogs provide an overall calming effect for Amelia, there are a number of tasks her dog can be taught. These tasks include finding her if she gets lost, serving as a stationary ballast in case she tries to wander away, and providing redirection from repetitive or self injurious behaviors; among other tasks.
When paired with a service dog, children on the autism spectrum often have improved sleep patterns, increased social interaction and better ability to express themselves.
Now you might be thinking, "well how can I help?" You can DONATE today. If you have $1, $100, $1,000 - hey even a penny off the street that you can spare - we will take it because it all adds up.
